Almost every individual nowadays has their own travel goals to achieve. Many people in this generation makes traveling their hobby. Still, not everyone could afford to tour different places within a certain amount of time. Those who are lucky enough to go out of town or even out of the country often experience a different kind of pleasure than those who are cooped up in one place. Plus, they’re also probably very rich and have enough money to go from one place to another.
One 27-year-old woman, however, spent hardly anything every time she went on a trip.
Cassandra De Pecol is a female backpacker who aimed to travel all 196 countries in the world and break the Guinness World Book of Records. In order to achieve this dream, she needs plenty of time and plenty of cash. Lucky for her because she has sponsors who could back her up with her finances.
By July 2015, De Pecol has already been to 181 countries all over the world. She finished traveling the entire world in February 2017. This earned her the title “Fastest time to visit all sovereign nations.”
The trip, which cost a total of $111,000 and was taken from her own savings from her babysitting job, took her 18 months to complete. She was even almost derailed when she ran out of funding halfway through the trip. Luckily, sponsors were there to fund her extra expenses.
She calls this journey “Expedition 196” as she aimed to reach all 196 sovereign countries all over the globe. She acted as an Ambassador for Peace on behalf of the International Institute for Peace through Tourism and spoke to at least 16,000 university students in 40 countries to explain the humanitarian and environmental focus of her trip.
