It’s not easy to become a millionaire. You have to be extremely wise with your finances and make sure that all of your businesses are running smoothly and at full throttle. Otherwise, you might lose all your hard work and fruits of labor. A certain half-Filipino millionaire by the name of Garrett Geeleft his job and instead, decided to travel.
According to Choose Philippines, Garrett sold his startup company to Snapchat for $54 million. Business Insider reported that this was Scan, a company whom the millionaire had created with his college friends. The technology of his company was developed to Snapcode. Garrett was only 26-years-old that time.
The millionaire and his family used the money ($45,000) that they have earned from one of their garage sales to finance their six-month trip around the world – instead of using the money that Garrett has received from Snapchat. They booked cheap flights and limited their spending as much as they could to fully maximize their goal of traveling around the world.
Garrett and his sister Miristi wanted to visit the Philippines because despite having Filipino blood, they haven’t been to the country. Their adventures will be aired in their own show “Discovering Routes,” which will follow their journey to the Philippines as they discover their roots.
Their own show would be aired with ABS-CBN Global Studios Production starting September 7, 2017. In an interview, the millionaire said that he has never really considered himself a businessman.
He said:
“I never really considered myself a businessman — I enjoyed the creative and entrepreneurial side. I’m really good at the stuff I care about.”
The millionaire said that he is currently focusing on his family and their journey in the Philippines, but added that he has another application in the works. He didn’t reveal anything about it yet but for now, he is excited to explore the country and everything in it.
