Many parents would do anything just to save their sick baby. Indeed, anyone in their right mind would try anything just to stop a child’s suffering. These parents from China did the unimaginable – they abandoned their sickly daughter and thought of making a new baby instead.
Baby Sun Menghan is suffering from a childhood disease known as Congenital biliary atresia. Biliary atresia is a liver disease where the liver’s ducts are abnormally narrow, blocked, or simply absent. The bile accumulated in these ducts destroys cells and eventually the liver itself.
The sick baby underwent several operations but doctors were unable to cure her. Sun Menghan was practically living in the hospital due to her condition.
As the hospital bills began to pile up, her parents decided it would be best to give up on their little girl and save up their remaining money to try again for another child. They never even returned to check up on her. They abandoned her at the hospital.
Menghan ’s grandparents decided to take it upon themselves to take care of the sickly child and pay for her hospital bills.
Her grandparents never stopped believing that one day their sweet granddaughter would be cured – even if all of their own money ran out. Still, these devoted grandparents fight on.
Naturally both grandparents were disappointed in their son and his wife.
When the news of Menghan’s story became a trending topic in Chinese media, that’s when her mother began to regret her decision, according to Mr Sun.
Mr. Sun also revealed that his daughter-in-law is currently taking care of Menghan’s older brother at their home in Anhui.
Thankfully, concerned netizens and other volunteers created a charity drive for the sick baby – setting up a donation page for little Menghan. They were able raise more than 500,000 Yuan (3,746,897 Pesos).
According to Mr. Sun, the little girl’s six operations cost that same amount of money but doctors and the volunteers swore that they would do everything to help the grandparents and Menghan.
